Why Long-Distance Relationships Are Hard
Its no secret: long-distance relationships, especially in college, are incredibly difficult. After all, just being in college is hard enough, so adding a long-distance relationship to the mix is inevitably going to add some stress and difficulty. Whether youre deciding whether you want to give your relationship a shot across the distance or whether youre just trying to prepare for whats to come, it can be a great help to be aware in advance of the challenges inherent in any college long-distance relationship. It Can Be a Challenge to Share the Little Things Sometimes, its being able to share the little things with someone that matter the most. Grabbing a cup of coffee, pointing out how ridiculous your physics professor is, or sharing a giggle over something funny in the quad are all things that can be hard, if not impossible, with a long-distance partner. Not having the shared experience of a million little things can be both sad and frustrating, especially as time goes on and all of those little, unshared experiences start to add up. It Can Be a Challenge to Share the Big Things You landed an amazing on-campus job; you just totally rocked your campaign speech for student government during a dead hour in the quad; you finally got selected to write a weekly editorial for the campus newspaper. While these may all be a huge deal in your college life, they can be hard to explain to someone who is far away and not completely familiar with the context theyre happening in. Sure, a partner can be excited for you, but its never quite the same as being there with you to applaud your efforts and see your victories in person. And that can be hard sometimes. Trust Issues Can Be Difficult You both are far away and living your own lives ... which hopefully means meeting new, interesting people. You might be a little jealous about your partners freedom and frequent interactions with potential love interests; your partner might be a little insecure about how much time youre spending with people he or she sees as a threat to your relationship. While any relationship has to be based on trust, trust in a long-distance relationship can sometimes be harder to establish. Your brain may even be able to logically explain why you should totally trust your partner, and yet your heart just cant seem to get on board. So even if you know youre being a little silly, trust issues can still creep in and pose a major challenge for one or both partners in a college long-distance relationship. Holidays and Special Events Can Feel Lonely While major goals for college should be, of course, academic in nature, there are major moments that happen along the way that is made all the more meaningful because of the people you share them with. And when your partner isnt there, things can get pretty challenging. Whether its a major athletic victory, a large co-curricular event youre organizing, a religious holiday, Valentines Day, or even something that happens unexpectedly, being alone when you want to share a special moment with your significant other can turn even the best of moments into one thats also bittersweet. Distance Can Grow Without Either Person Realizing It Even if both partners in a college long-distance relationship have the best of intentions, things sometimes just dont work out. All your Skype dates, messaging, and attempts to stay close somehow just fall short. The challenging part of this situation can, unfortunately, be that it happens without anyone really realizing it or, even worse, with one partner realizing it well before the other. They Will Never Fully Understand Your College Life Even if your partner lived on the same floor in your residence hall as you do, you still wouldnt be fully able to explain all of the details of your life to them. So when you add distance to the situation, things can quickly become incredibly, if not overwhelmingly, challenging. Even the best communicators can find it difficult to accurately and adequately explain all the exciting things about their time in school. And a partner can quickly become frustrated at their inability to fully understand whats going on in their significant others daily life. So while it may not necessarily be anyones fault, it can be frustrating when neither partner fully understands the others life. You Just Miss Them It goes without saying, of course, that the biggest challenge of a college long-distance relationship is the fact that you just miss someone you care very deeply about. You can try your hardest to stay close and make the relationship work. And even if you do last during your time apart, youll undoubtedly miss your partner terribly during the journey.

The American Revolutionary War Was A Struggle For Many,
The American Revolutionary war was a struggle for many, no matter the gender or color. Not only during the war, but after too, because wars never end at the battle field. The war was for freedom, and after they received that freedom, they had another job. Next were laws, government, new rules and new challenges. Not only were those fighting for government were stressed, but also the citizens. Citizens like women and African Americans, the ones that were oppressed from regular freedom for so long. The American Revolution was a chance for new life, for all that desperately wanted it. One of the first debates after the war was held at the Constitutional Convention. The Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia, May of 1787. Theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦But the smaller states would not nudge, they wanted to keep equal representation. The debate kept growing until Connecticut proclaimed that there should be only one house with representatives and states to have equal. No lat er than July, the delegates eagerly Roger Shermanââ¬â¢s Connecticut Compromise, which were established in September. The Connecticut Compromise established the representatives to be depended on by population. But the senates are to be of equal number between each state. However, there was still a problem that no one seemed to touch on. The states started wondering how to count slaves in their society, both in representation and taxes. That is when another situation occurred between the North and South. The North only saw slaves as property, not seeing why they should ever be counted in representation. On the other hand, the South wanted slaves to be equal to them and wanted the slaves to be counted with their population. The House then decided to make the three/fifths Compromise, stating the three fifths of the African Americans will count in representation of each state. The next issue they had was how were they to select presidents. The government could see that the rivalry bet ween the larger and smaller states was still burning. There are many qualities to consider, but the responsibility falls on the human resource specialist. The responsibility of the human resources specialist is to hire the ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠candidate for opening positions within the company. In making these decisions he or she must ensure that the right candidate is selected for that position. Different recruitment strategies will be compared and contrasted to determine the right recruitment strategy to attract those potential candidates for specific positions based on the following industries: education, engineering, and business. An explanation will be given to show why the selected recruitment strategy was chosen for each industry. The human resources specialist will choose a candidate for an opening position and explain the process that was used to offer the job. Two types of strategies that can be used when deciding to fill a position; open recruitment and target recruitment, both of these strategies can be used, but it depends on the type of position that they are hiring for and the number of applicants they are looking to attract. Open recruitment has its advantages and disadvantages but first, let us define open recruitment. This strategy opens the doors for anyone and everyone regardless of his or her qualifications to apply for the position. The advantage of this strategy is it gives the applicants a feeling of fairness, in that, everyone has the opportunity to apply. Another advantage of open recruitment is it ensures a diverse set of applicants would be given a fair opportunity to be considered for the position (Heneman Judge, 2009). On the other hand, target recruitment is more specific to the needs of the organization. An organization may use target recruitment when the organization is trying to identify segments to locate potential candidates in the labor market. According to Heneman-Judge this recruitment is used to match specific characteristics pertinent to person/job or person/organization (Heneman amp; Judge, 2009). The advantage of this strategy is that it narrows the number of applications the organization or company receives, which gives the organization more time to focus on the qualified applicant. The disadvantage to this strategy is there is usually a short supply in the specific skill set. As the human resources specialist reviews these two strategies he or she must determine which strategy would successfully attract the potenti al candidate for education, engineering, and business. Education The human resources specialist has evaluated the qualifications for the vacant position and has determined that any applicant, who would apply for a position directed in the education industry, would have to meet the specific characteristics of the position. The human resources specialist determined that the target recruitment would focus directly on specific skills that are needed to attract the applicant. Engineering This vacant position also requires specifics in characteristics to meet the particulars in the position. The human resources specialist determined that the target recruitment strategy best benefits the engineering industry. An engineering position requires much schooling and technical training. Using the target recruitment strategy will pinpoint the exact qualities of the applicant. Business The human resources specialist determined that open recruitment and target recruitment would be the best strategy for this industry. The open recruitment will bring a diverse group of applicants to entry level positions. This strategy also gives the organization a large number of applicants to choose from. Once the organization determines that higher end level positions may need to be filled, the organization would use target recruitment. In reviewing open and target recruitment strategies, the human resources specialist determined that the best strategy for hiring candidates to fill open positions would be target recruitment. Target recruitment is the most effective strategy because it focuses on identifying and enlisting individuals with specific attributes, experience, skill or knowledge that aligns with the recipientââ¬â¢s needs and goals (Resources to Help Employers Hire and Retain People with Disabilities, 2011). Selected Candidate The human resources specialist received several applications for the administrative assistant position. The strategy that was selected to find the right applicant for the position was target recruitment. The human resources specialist determined that the qualifications that the organization was looking for was targeted through this strategy. The process that the human resources specialist used was questions and answer from the interview. The candidate was knowledgeable about the company and this indicated that the applicant showed interest in the company, this makes the employer feel that the applicant did his or her homework. Another factor the human resources specialist used was determining if the applicant could bring knowledge to the company. The applicants expertise and bright ideas will help the company enhance the further goals of the company. Every applicant is interested in how much money will the company offer for the position and what types of rewards and benefits does the company have. The company would want to ensure that whatever benefits and rewards are offered will be enticing enough to attract the applicant. The human resources specialist expressed that flexibility is an important factor because he or she needed to determine if the candidate is willing and available to move with the company.
